the Why to Dry Brushing

Dry Brushing benefits are more than skin deep.

the Why to Dry Brushing
DRY BRUSHING. A term I'm sure you've heard buzzing around Tik Tok and the Sunday brunch table. What is it and why should you begin implementing it in your daily self care practice.

Originating from Ayurvedic medicine (ancient Indian medicine system), Dry Brushing method was used centuries ago before baths, cleansing rituals, and to promote lymphatic drainage. The practice itself is quite simple, using a natural bristle brush with smooth long brush strokes toward the heart. And the benefits are plentiful. Promotes lymphatic drainage, unclogs pores, increases blood circulation and cell renewal.

More on LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

A huge benefit to dry brushing is that it promotes lymphatic drainage. The Lymph System is a second circulatory system in the body that draws out toxins and stagnation from our tissues; flushing it out through our liver and kidneys. When the Lymph System is functioning at its best, our skin in hydrated and smooth. And our energy and immune system is restored.

The only way to encourage proper functioning of the Lymph is through mechanical movements -- à la Dry Brushing!

Dry Brushing pairs perfectly with our Glow Scrub for the ultimate exfoliation treatment.

Choosing a Dry Brush

It's very important to use a brush with natural semi-stiff bristles.

Our MerMarché Plant-based Dry Brush is made of Beachwood and Sisal.

Sisal (Agave sisalana) is a species of flowering plant native to southern Mexico, but widely cultivated and naturalized in many other countries.
Sisal bristles stand at the very centre of the spectrum of strength, and utilize a sustainable means of productionUnlike other all-natural brushes made from plants that tend to have coarse bristles, sisal brushes have semi-firm bristles which are perfectly safe for the skin.

How to Dry Brush

You should only brush towards the heart. Making long sweeps(avoid back and forth, scrubbing and circular motions). Start at your feet, moving up the legs on both sides, then work from the arms toward your chest. On your stomach, direct the brush counterclockwise. Avoid brushing too hard: Skin should be stimulated and invigorated but not irritated or red.

Cleaning the brush: Simply scrub the tool with warm water and a gentle soap or makeup brush cleanser. Make sure to set it out to dry with the bristles facing up so they don't collect any mildew or bacteria.
